Welcome!

 Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

   Following the events at Sandy Hook Elementary, our principals are working with the school counselors and teachers to develop an age-appropriate response for the students. We would like to think that these stories always happen someplace else, but the events that unfolded last week taught us differently. Tragedy can happen anywhere so school security must always be our concern.

We want you to know about some of the precautions already in place in the district:

1. Each building has a safety plan that contains emergency and security procedures;
2. Administrators and teachers have been trained to follow this safety plan;
3. A Vulnerability Assessment Team meets to review current procedures in place;
4. The school district employs one fulltime and one part time security personnel;
5. The school district coordinates safety concerns with both Coal Township and Shamokin
Police Departments;
6. All of our schools have secure public entrances. Visitors to these schools are screened before
entry into each building.

   School personnel and our Board will be meeting to identify and make changes in our security plans and to gain input from people with security expertise.
Even with these precautions in place, we realize that some students may still be upset by this tragedy. Our school counselors are trained to talk to students about their concerns or fears. Our staff is willing and able to provide support as necessary.

   We can’t imagine the pain and suffering of those families in Connecticut. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
If you have questions or concerns about school safety, we welcome your comments.

Please know we will always take our responsibility to provide a safe place for your children very seriously.

Sincerely,
James T. Zack
Superintendent
