Last evening the Board of Directors for the Shamokin Area School District approved a tentative agreement with the Shamokin Area Education Association for a new collective bargaining agreement which will last until 2023. The students of the District will start the school year on time with no threat of a work stoppage for the foreseeable future. The parties worked collaboratively to achieve this new agreement taking steps to give the Administration flexibility with staff, provide a new and cost saving health care plan, while providing the professional employees competitive wage increases, as well as increasing starting rates for new professional employees coming into the District. Details of the agreement cannot be released until after the Association votes on the agreement later this week, however, the Board of Directors and the Administration feel comfortable this new agreement will enable the District to maintain course offerings and opportunities for the students of Shamokin Area now and into the future. Furthermore, the District believes this new agreement will allow for less budgetary constraints with the change in the health care plan while providing competitive wage increases to our professional staff.
The Board of Directors and the District's administration would like to thank the Association negotiating team for its hard work and willingness to compromise to achieve a settlement prior to the start of the school year.
