Shamokin Area Cyber Charter Costs Presentation

Financial Incentive for Returning Cyber School Students

Dear Shamokin Area School District Families:

I hope you are all doing well.  I want to take this opportunity to inform you that we are still currently working on our School Reopening Health and Safety Plan.  Over the past several weeks, we have been partnering with our local intermediate unit, neighboring school districts, Geisinger Medical Center and Evangelical Community Hospital to use local and global research and best practices, along with the most current recommendations from the CDC and PDE to create a plan to reopen our schools.  We are committed to keeping our students and staff safe, while providing the highest quality education possible for our students and families in person and through virtual learning tools.  Although no final decisions have been made, we are hopeful to have a plan developed and proposed for School Board approval later in July.  In the meantime, we will also be developing a plan for our own Shamokin Area Cyber School option which will allow for a smoother transition from in-person to virtual learning at a much cheaper cost to the taxpayers (as opposed to students enrolling in outside cyber schools).  With that being said, I want to thank you for your patience and say that we are hopeful to see our students back in our schools once again.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.    And please stay tuned for additional updates.  Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Chris J. Venna

Dear Shamokin Area School District Families:

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support during these unprecedented times.  I am sure many of you have seen a variety of different scenarios and guidelines for the re-opening of schools this Fall.  There are many uncertainties and unknowns at this time.  Given the current situation, we are preparing for several different options which include: a total reopen, a scaffolded reopen (some students in-person and others remote), a blended reopen (in-person and remote learning on alternating days), and total remote learning for all students.

However, as per the Pennsylvania Department of Education, each school entity must first create a Health and Safety Plan which will serve as the local guidelines for all instructional and non- instructional school reopening activities.  This plan will be tailored to the unique needs of our District and will be created in consultation with local health agencies.  Over the next several weeks, we will be working on developing our Health and Safety Plan to serve as our guide for reopening school.  We are asking for your patience with us during this time as we will be sure to communicate accordingly as updates become available.  In the meantime, please follow the link below to give feedback, by 6/22/20, regarding the opening plans for the 2020-21 school year.

Please understand that we will continue to do the very best we can to provide you with appropriate, flexible, safe, and equitable options.  We are hopeful to see our students back in our schools once again.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
