    WELCOME TO

    Mrs. Bias’ 6th Grade Reading Class

     

    Hi, just want to introduce myself and give you a little information about this school year.  My name is Mary Bias and I will be your child’s Reading teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. 

    Reading Curriculum – Shamokin Area is currently using the Wonder’s Reading Series.  I will be utilizing a variety of materials to help each student reach their reading potential.  All students will be given four different reading books.  Two will be hard cover, Reader/Writer Workshop and Anthology, and two soft cover, Your Turn and Close Read Companion.  They will also be using white board technology and many supplemental materials.  This series is very challenging but follows many of the same routines and patterns that they have had previously.  

    • Students will be graded on tests, participation, classwork/homework and Cold Read Assessments.

    Communication – During the first week of school the 6th grade teachers are asking families to sign up for REMIND.  You will receive information about this app. once school begins.  REMIND is a simple text messaging and email app. for us to send messages quickly throughout the year.  I am also available through email, mbias@indians.k12.pa.us or phone the school and leave me a message.  I am more than happy to answer any questions and address any concerns you have.   

      I have no doubt this will be a very fun and productive year.
