Reading - Please study reading vocabulary words every night. Each week your child will be tested on the vocabulary words and the main story of the week.

Take turn reading pages with your child. If they are getting stuck on words have them echo you sentence by sentence. Try to ask your child questions while you are reading with them.

    Math:
Some things you can practice at home are: telling time, counting coins, adding 10, 100, or 1,000 to a number, subtracting 10, 100, or 1,000 from a number.  You can also practice rounding numbers to the nearest 10 or 100. Remind your child they can draw a number line as a strategy when rounding numbers.

Another good thing to practice is basic facts. Begin by practicing basic addition facts and then move onto subtraction and multiplication. There are many sites on the internet that students can use to practice basic facts.  You could also make flash cards using index cards.  In math we will start working on multiplication. Knowing their basic multiplication facts is an important Third Grade skill. Otherwise they have to make arrays, do repeated addition, or draw a picture to help them find the answer. Please practice those multiplication facts!! We will also be working on place value and reading, writing, and ordering large numbers.

     * Please sign or inital planners every night!!
Planners are a communication tool. Students write homework and upcoming events. I also will write and respond to notes in the planner.
