Building Strong Routines

Dear Spear Families,

September is the time to turn a strong start into a dependable routine. Students should log in to Pearson Connexus every school day, review the Calendar and To-do List, complete work by the listed due dates, and check WebMail for teacher messages. Daily participation means meaningful academic work—not simply logging in.

Please review grades and pacing together at least once each week. Families should use the Connexus Observer Dashboard and watch ParentSquare and Pearson notifications so missing work or low grades can be addressed early. Students who need help should contact the teacher listed in the course and reach out to the Spear team before concerns grow.

Weekly Wellness Checks continue throughout the year. Students must open the assigned Wellness Check in SPEAR Homeroom, attend at the scheduled time, and remain until a staff member confirms the check is complete.

District Act 80 early-release days do not affect Spear. Students should follow their normal virtual schedule unless Spear sends a specific update.

SPEAR Family Quick Start Guide

SPEAR Learning Center

The SPEAR Learning Center is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00–11:00 a.m. It gives students a structured place to work, receive help with Pearson Connexus, review program expectations, catch up academically or with attendance requirements, and connect with IEP support teachers and services when appropriate.

Free breakfast is available to students who arrive early enough for service. Free lunch is available to students who remain until at least 10:30 a.m.

September Reminders & Important Dates

September 4 and 7 — School Closed
October 9 — Act 80 Early-Release Day; this does not affect SPEAR students
October 12 — Teacher In-Service; no school for students
October 30 — Halfway Point of Semester 1

District Act 80 early-release days do not affect SPEAR. Students should follow their regular virtual schedule on those days.

Weekly Wellness Checks

Every full-time SPEAR student must complete one live visual wellness check during each instructional week of three or more days. The assignment and meeting link are in SPEAR Homeroom. Students must be visible and respond to a staff member before leaving. If a student is absent or your household has a documented internet or power outage, contact SPEAR promptly so the check can be rescheduled within the same instructional week.

Keep Moving Forward

Small, consistent steps matter. Check the Pearson calendar, due dates, grades, WebMail, and ParentSquare every week. Contact the SPEAR team at (570) 509-2870 whenever support is needed.
