Dear Spear Families,
Just as we rake up fallen leaves to keep our yards clear and healthy, this season is the perfect time to clean up academic routines and check on student progress. October is our Autumn Checkup a chance to pause, reflect, and make sure your child is on track before the semester ends. Semester courses move quickly, and small setbacks can grow if not addressed early. This month is your chance to check grades, evaluate routines, and connect with teachers or staff if needed. Waiting until November is often too late to easily recover fully. We’re here to help your student finish strong.
Is Your Student on Track?
- Log into ParentVUE and Connexus Observer to view grades and pacing
- Identify overdue assignments or courses behind schedule
- Review attendance and daily academic engagement
- Talk with your student about how they feel in each class
- Schedule time at the Spear Learning Center if extra support is needed. A few minutes now can prevent frustration later.
Spear Learning Center Support
Location: Spear Office
Availability: Tuesday–Thursday, start of school until 11:00 AM
By appointment only — call to reserve
Free lunch provided to students attending
The Learning Center offers personalized support that helps students refocus and catch up. Most students improve within a week, with grades rising quickly. If your child is behind, don’t wait — call to schedule.
Communicate Early with Teachers
If your child struggles or is uncertain, contact their teacher first. Teachers provide guidance and support. Teacher contact info is listed in the Pearson Connexus platform at the top of each course page. A quick message can lead to fast help.
We deeply value communication and encourage families to reach out often. Your involvement makes a real difference.
Need a Personal Check-In?
You can schedule a meeting with a Spear team member or request a phone check-in. Early conversations help us support your student before issues grow.
Attendance Expectations (If Failing a Class)
Students failing a class must complete a minimum of 4 hours of active instructional work each school day until passing. This includes lessons, quizzes, notes, teacher communication, and overdue work. Consistent engagement leads to recovery.
